The new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers ((NDA), that has shunned all entreaties to stop bombing oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta region of the country, said Friday, it was not responsible for the killing of two soldiers on Wednesday night, vowing to fish out the killers.
The group condemned the killing of the two soldiers, promising the victims’ families that those responsible for the heinous act would be “brought to book”
In a statement signed by Mudoch Agbinibo, the Avengers condemned all acts of violence against military and civilians, declaring “the days of killing and kidnapping” over.
“Killing of sleeping soldiers is not our style,” the Avengers said in an update posted on its website. “We promise the world that in this process of liberating our people, not a single blood of Nigeria soldiers will be wasted despite the provocation.
“Our war is on oil installations not to take innocent lives.
“We promise the families of the affected soldiers that we will bring the culprits to book.”
The group thus cautioned other “freedom fighters” in the region to emulate its style of ensuring that no innocent person would be killed in the course of its agitation.
“This message is going to all groups parading themselves as freedom fighters. You can fight for your people without killing innocent soul. We were able to drop Nigeria oil production from 2 million barrels (per day) to just 800,000 barrels without killing a soul. We are warning every group to follow our footsteps.”
Two soldiers were ambushed and killed at a military houseboat in Efe-Ugbokodo area in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Wednesday evening.
A security source said the attack occurred between 7 and 8 p.m
“I cannot give you details of the incident but I can confirm to you that a military houseboat was attacked by suspected militants.
“I cannot confirm the number of causalities to you right now as details of the incident is still trickling in, but am sure that later today, we would get details on the true position of things,” the military source had added.
Majority of the soldiers were said to have gone on their different beats in the creeks when they were shot dead.
However, NDA claimed, the group did not carry out the attack.
This disclaimer is coming few hours after the Avengers said its fighters blew up oil pipeline operating from Igbinidu to Tebidabs and Clough Creek.
In a tweet in the late hours of Thursday, it said it blew up “Ogboinbiri to Tebidaba and Clough Creek to Tebidaba crude oil pipelines in Bayelsa State.
“At about 2:00am today @NDAvengers blew up the Ogboinbiri to Tebidaba and Clough Creek to Tebidaba crude oil pipelines in Bayelsa State.”
“This in line with our promise to all international oil companies and indigenous oil companies that Nigeria oil production will be zero.”
