Jailed former former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Raymond Omatseye, has been granted bail pending the appeal of his conviction.
Omatseye, who was found guilty for over a N1.5bn contract scam during his tenure, was asked to go home, Monday, by Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court, Lagos.
Omatseye was jailed 5 years following his conviction on multiple counts on May 20, 2016.
Omatseye’s bail conditions include depositing N500, 000 (Five hundred thousand naira) alongside his international travel passport with the court.
He must also provide two sureties, one of whom must be a level 16 civil servant.
The same Court had convicted the former Director-General over N1.5bn contract scam and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
The trial Judge, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia had pronounced Omatseye guilty in 24 out of the 27-count charge leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
She sentenced him to five years imprisonment for each of the 24 counts.
