Oshiomhole Sacks Aide for Supporting Deputy Governor in Primaries

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has terminated the appointment of his Executive Director on Poverty Alleviation and Mobilisation, Chief (Mrs) Evelyn Igbafe, for “dereliction of duty, incompetence.’
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, in a letter dated June 1 and released on Friday, stated: “I write to inform you that the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole has approved the termination of your appointment as Executive Director to the Governor on Poverty Alleviation and Mobilisation for dereliction of duty, incompetence and abdicating your responsibilities”.
Consequently, you are to return all government property with you, including vehicles and identity card, to the Directorate of Administration, Governor’s Office immediately”
However, independent source said her sack may not be unconnected with the last weekend primaries of APC, where Igbafe stood stolidly behind the Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu, rather than the Governor’s preferred candidate. Godwin Obaseki, who eventually emerged as APC candidate in the September 10 governorship election in the state.
Prior to the primaries, Igbafe had granted press interviews, during which she castigated the Governor for preferring Obaseki to Odubu.
She had said it amounted to ungrateful act on the part of Oshiomhole to dump a man who had showed unalloyed loyalty to him for eight years.
It is believed she was sacked for disobeying the Governor, who before the primaries had directed all his aides to line behind Obaseki.
Odubu came second in the primaries held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, June 18.
