Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu has emerged the People Democratic (PDP) party’s candidate for the September 10, governorship election in Edo state.
The part held its primary, Monday, inside the mainbowl of Samuel Ogbemudia statement, Benin.
Pastor Ize-Iyamu will challenge Godwin Obaseki of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 10 governorship election.
Out of the three aspirants that vied for the party’s ticket, Pastor Ize- Iyamu scored 584 votes to beat two other contestants Solomon Edebiri, and Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, who trailed behind him with 38 and 91 votes respectively.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Committed, the Governor of Eboyi, Dave Umahi, said the primary was to produce a candidate among the three aspirants who will ensure the victory of the party during the governorship election.
He said the party has no aspirant in mind and would ensure a free and fair primary that would produce a candidate that will have the interest of the Edo people at heat.
Declaring the result, Governor Umahi, said ” the total number of delegates for the election were 751 but 713 turned up for accreditation. Out of this number, Pastor Ize Iyamu scored 584 votes, Solomon Edebiri pulled 38 while Mathew Iduoriyekemwen scored 91. With this result, Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu is declared winner of the primary,”
He however called on other aspirants to support the party’s candidate in order to ensure that the PDP is victorious during the governorship election.
In his speech, Pastor Ize- Iyamu, said there is no winner or loser in the primary as they are going to work together in ensuring that the party wins the September 10 election.
He said the PDP would not rest untill power is taken from the APC, adding that the primary which produced him as a candidate is a sign of better things to come.
Ize-Iyamu, however, called on his co-contestants to join hands with him in the fight to dethrone the APC and enthroned good governance in the state.
