Protesters for and against the embattled (former?) Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Ali Sheriff stormed the party’s National Secretariat, otherwise known as Wadada Plaza, Abuja, Wednesday morning.
The protesters, who came in their hundreds, mostly youths, chanted songs, depending on which side of the divide, they belong.
The anti-Sheriff protesters, who came in mini buses, carried placards with different inscriptions. Some of them read: “Sheriff must go”, “Sheriff leave our party alone”; “Agent of APC stop killing our party”, among others.
They are demanding that Sheriff should be expelled from the party, saying his presence in the Secretariat is a disaster for the party.
Those for Sheriff wore “T” shirts with Sheriff’s portrait, also sang songs to high heavens in praise of Sheriff.
They are insisting that Sheriff remains the party’s National Chairman.
Some of the inscription on the placard they carried read: “Sheriff MUST stay”; “Sheriff is our man” They danced to traditional Hausa music.
They said Sheriff is the rightful person to occupy the Secretariat as they claimed, he had been validated by the court.
