Buhari Approves Appointments into NACA, NHIS, CDC, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of
heads of five health institutions in the country.
This was disclosed in a statement by Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant
to the President on new media, on his twitter handle: Bashir Ahmad
(@BashirAhmaad), on Friday.
They are the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), National Agency for the
Control of Aids (NACA), the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research
(NIMR), the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and
the National Health Insurance Scheme (NPHCDA).
To head NIMR is Prof Babatunde Salami, NACA will be headed by Dr Sani
Aliyu, while NHIS boss is now Prof Usman Yusuf and NPHCDA will be
under Prof Echezona Ezeanolue, and Dr Chikwe Andreas Ihekweazu, takes
over as CDC boss.
All the five appointments have already taken effect.
According to the statement, head of the CDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, was
the managing partner at EpiAfric, a public health consultancy firm
that focuses on Africa, while NACA boss, Dr Sani Aliyu was a
consultant in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Cambridge
University, UK.
The head of the NIMR, Prof. Babatunde Salako was the Provost, College
of Medicine at the University of Ibadan before his new appointment and
Echezona Ezeanolue in charge of NPHCDA, was a Professor of Paediatrics and Public Health at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas,USA.
The head of the NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, was a Professor of
Paediatrics at St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, USA,
the statement added.
