Jibrin Relishing Role in Exposing Corruption in House of Rep, Vows to be One Man Crusader

Former Chairman of Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, says he is relishing every moment he had played so far in exposing corruption in the House of Representatives.
Speaking on Thursday, he said he was happy that he has suddenly become an activist over night, saying it suited him well.
According to him, “For those who keep saying why now, (they) should realize that for every situation like this to occur, there must be a trigger however it looks!
“I woke up mid night yesterday to pray and suddenly realized I have become an accidental activist. This is noble and there is no going back!
“I am a product of the establishment but something in me has never been comfortable. I’m so glad that by September 9th my 40th birthday everybody would have known where I stand for the rest of my life; rural agriculture and fight against corruption especially in the NASS,” he said.
In his statement on Thursday, he vowed to continue with the revelation of fraudulent practices and abuse of office against Dogara and the cabal that have held the National Assembly hostage until the law takes its course.
He expressed the hope that with the volume of allegations he has raised against the Speaker and some principal officers, there are enough reasons for the House to move against them and bring new hands to pilot the affairs of the House.
“When a new Speaker emerges and the other principal officers replaced, I will write to the presiding officers of both chambers to commence a radical internal reform in the entire NASS beyond budget to cover performance assessment, running cost and allowances, investigations, etc.
“If the reform so done on NASS is not made public latest by December, I shall take it up and lay before the general public even if I am alone.
“The idea is to do a cleanup, flush out corruption and corrupt members so that in 2019 only corrupt free people who want to serve will come in “God Almighty knows I am not perfect but as I approach 40 years in September, I have always wondered what is it that I can live and die for,” he said.
Since he was sacked last week as Appropriation Committee Chairman, Jibrin has revealed tons of allegations against Dogara and some of his colleagues of how they padded the 2016 budget, which resulted in building meaningless projects into the system to fleece the country of billions of naira
Meanwhile, a new alliance of lawmakers, called Transparency Group, which emerged in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, has said its call for sweeping investigation in the House is not driven by politics.
The new group has demanded that both Dogara and Jibrin be investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“We are not Dogara’s group; and we are not Jibrin’s group.
“Our main purpose is that there is transparency in the House”, Spokesperson for the new group, Mohammed Soba (APC-Kaduna), said
Mr. Soba said the group would push for an emergency resumption of the House to address the “criminal matter” of “budget padding” which he said could not be investigated internally.
Transparency Group says it has 113 members who are cooperating to “ask all those at the centre of the controversy to face the allegations in line with criminal justice system,” Soba said.
“Our next move is to put heat on the Speaker to reconvene the House immediately so that we discuss this issue of national importance. We then take decision on the floor of the House on what line of action to be taken.
“We are demanding independent investigation into the allegations because this matter is purely criminal. Padding of the budget of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is criminal. So nobody should expect us to fold our arms to watch the appointees of the Speaker investigate the Speaker in the name of the Ethics and Privileges Committee,” Soba said.
