Crisis Escalates in Ondo APC as Police Take over Secretariat

The crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged imposition of candidate by a former Lagos State Governor and national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, ahead party governorship primaries on August 27, seemed to have escalated Wednesday, as security operatives have taken over the state secretariat.
Protests had greeted the rumoured imposition with aggrieved members claiming Tuesday that the state Chairman Isaac Kekemeke has been impeached, accusing him of complicity in the alleged imposition.
The aggrieved members had locked the gates early on Tuesday, after they drove out party officials from the secretariat.
But some of the party supporters loyal to the Chairman and led by one Amoda Bello, stormed the secretariat on Wednesday, to break open the gates.
They drove away the other faction and occupied the adjoining streets in front of the secretariat before Policemen came to take charge.
The armed security men were said to have arrived the secretariat on Wednesday morning along with a detachment of operatives of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Bello decried the action of the aggrieved group as illegal, saying no group has the right to lock up the secretariat of the party.
He said if any group of people feel aggrieved, they should channel their grievances through the appropriate quarters.
In a reaction, the APC State Secretary, Rahman Rotimi, condemned the action of members who locked the party state secretariat on Tuesday.
Rotimi said the party secretariat is symbolic and nobody has the right to lock out other members of the party.
He said in a party like the APC disagreement is bound to come but must be handled by the appropriate channels rather than locking the secretariat.
