Germany to Establish Cottage Industry in Edo Community By Isaac Eranga, Benin

The German government has promised to assist the people of Ughiri community in Edo South Senatorial district of Edo State with the setting up of cottage industry.
This was to help arrest the massive movement of youths to foreign lands through the deserts and Mediterranean sea.
This promise was made by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nigeria, Amb. Ingo Herbert, when he paid a working visit to Edo State.
The German Ambassador who said he was highly fascinated with the cultural practices of the Benin people, promised to create time to come and witness the popular Igue festival held annually in Benin.
Speaking earlier, the Enogie of Ughiri Kingdom, HRH Amb. Barr. Godwin
Aigbe said the visit of the Ambassador was unique because it was the first time for an Ambassador to visit his community.
He said the Ambassador came to propagate peace and culture, saying culture is the basis of his stool.
“A lot of things are written on paper, broadcast on radio and television, but today you have come to see for yourself.
“My community is a peaceful one and I am here by hereditary. I am a trained lawyer and I served in the Nigerian Police Force for 35 years. I am a United Nations Peace Ambassador. We have healthcare facilities,
functioning boreholes, an abattoir and a skill acquisition centre”, said the Enogie.
HRH Aigbe said many people die on the Mediterranean Sea and in the deserts because they find it difficult to travel through normal routes in search of greener pastures because they are very much fascinated about what they hear concerning foreign lands.
“We have all it takes to create jobs in this country, there is no need for youths to die on the Mediterranean sea”, he said.
The Enogie called for the sustenance of the intercultural relationship,
saying this will help arrest the drift of youths to foreign countries through unacceptable channels where they expose themselves to dangers.
He urged the Federal Republic of Germany to support in the establishment of cottage industries for the processing of cassava into various value chain products.
There was exchange of gifts between both parties.
