Robbers Ambush Bullion Vans, Kill 2 Policemen

Two mobile policemen have been reportedly killed when armed robbers attacked a convoy of bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria, in the early hours of Tuesday at Hawan Kibo along Jos-Abuja Road.
Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, who confirmed the incident said he was yet to receive the full report.
He said that some policemen were killed, but did not know the number.
It was gathered that the bullion vans were on their way to Abuja from Jos when the attack took place.
It was learnt that the incident happened immediately after a military check point, somewhere along Hawan Kibo.
The armed robbers, said to be wearing military uniforms, were said to have suddenly appeared from the bush and attacked a patrol team belonging the Plateau State security outfit, “Operation Rainbow”, attached to Riyom Local Government, killing a mobile policeman on the spot.
It was further gathered that it was at this point that the CBN convoy also ran into the armed robbers who opened fire on it. The incident was said to have happened at about 8.30 am,Tuesday morning.
The robbers engaged the escort in a shootout, leading to the death of the second mobile policeman, who was in the CBN convoy. The policeman was identified as Sgt. Anthony Jawa, from Mobile Police Squad (MOPOL) 8, Jos.
It is not yet clear if the robbers succeeded in stealing any of the bullion vans or taking money from any of them.
