Free El-Zakzaky or We Occupy Abuja, Shi’ite Muslims Threaten

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites, have threatened to sustain a protest to free their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky Zakzaky, who has been in detention since December 2015 when members of the sect clashed with the Military.
Members of the sect said on Monday in Kaduna that they would march on Abuja to protest the continued detention of their leader by the Department of State Security (DSS).
They said they were prepared to occupy Abuja as long as it took the authorities concerned to free El-Zakzaky.
The group, who spoke under ‘Save Zakzaky’s Life Group of Nigeria’, said that it has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to set free Zakzaky or face the wrath of the group.
The group said when the 14-day ultimatum given by the sect to the Federal Government within which to release El-Zakzaky expired, Shi’ites in millions would occupy the Federal Capital Territory until their leader was released.
National Coordinator, Bashir Martha, said that as Nigerians, “We have the right to show our grievances and concerns in peaceful manner.
“The police, soldiers and all other security agencies should take note. They should never harass, or intimidate us. Our slogan is free Zakzaky. Our mission in Abuja is to seek the release of our leader, Sheik Ibrahim Zakzaky. Nothing, but that”, he said.
