Woman to Spend 90 Years in Prison for Fraud

A lady, Chika Amsy Charles, is to spend 90 years in prison following her conviction by an Enugu High Court, Thursday, for admission racketeering and other fraudulent activities.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, had arraigned her on 30-count charge and the court convicted her on all the counts and sentenced her to three years each of the counts. However, the sentence is to run concurrently from the date of her conviction.
Ms. Charles was said to have fleeched three young Nigerians to the tune of N5.6m with the promise of helping them to secure admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
She was accused of obtaining “Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand) from Okudoh Obinna by false pretense when you represented yourselves as capable of procuring admission for his wards into Enugu State University of Science and Technology which pretense you knew to be false and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 1(1)(b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act NO: 14 of 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act”.
She was alleged to have used her unregistered NGO known as Bold and Dynamic Gender Initiative to perpetuate the fraud.
A petition against her in 2007 by one of her victims led the EFCC to open a can of worms which eventually unveiled her nefarious activities and under hand dealings with the said NGO.
