Abia Former Gov. Orji Kalu Joins APC

A former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu until his defection was the founder of the Progressives People Alliance (PPA).
Publicity secretary of APC, Ben Godson said that the defection takes place in Abuja, the party Headquarters Wednesday.
Kalu is currently facing criminal charges bordering on fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had re-arraigned the former Governor and two others on a 34-count amended charge bordering on fraud.
Kalu, his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and his former Commissioner for Finance, Jones Udeogo, were re-arraigned before Justice Anwuri Chikere of the Federal High Court on September 27.
The defendants had pleaded that the court should await the pending appeal by Slok before the Supreme Court but the court refused.
Chikere had refused the defendants’ objection to their arraignment and ordered that the charge be read to them.
Kalu and others were, in the amended charge, accused of diverting about N3.2 billion from the Abia government’s treasury during Kalu’s tenure as Governor.
When the matter came on December 7,Kanu pleaded that the case be transferred to Lagos from Abuja for hearing.
