As Akeredolu Emerges Ondo Governor Elect, He Thanks Buhari, Odigie-Oyegun for Support

Ondo State Governor elect, Rotimi Akeredolu, has expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, for their support in his emergence.
In his victory speech he read at his Owo residence, minutes after he was declared winner, Akeredolu said his victory was not only for him and supporters of his party, APC, but for all the residents of Ondo State.
At the end of official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday morning, for 17 local governments, Akeredolu scored 224,167 votes.
His closest challenger, Eyitayo Jegede of the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 132,823 votes. Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), currently has 98,230 votes.
The results of one local government, Ilaje, was still being expected and INEC has postponed further announcement of results.
Apart from winning the highest number of votes cast in the 17 local governments already announced, Akeredolu also won the highest number of councils.
He won in 14 local governments, Jegede won in two while Oke won in one local government.
Akeredolu thanked all Governors and officials of the APC “who are loyal” to the party.
“By the grace of God, I will not fail you, people of Ondo State,” Akeredolu added.
“Ondo has decided and I am humbled that my people chose me. Our time to Think Anew and Act Anew has come. Thank You Ondo State”, he wrote in his twitter handle, @RotimiAkeredolu.
