Ten Feared Killed In OPC, Police Clash In Ibadan

No fewer than ten people were feared killed in Ibadan on Tuesday as men of the Nigeria Police, Oyo State command engaged each other in a bloody clash. As at the time of filling this report reasons for the clash was still sketchy. Several calls made to the police PRO were not answered. Investigations by WSJ revealed that two fashions of the OPC engaged each other, killing two persons before the police were drafted in to maintain law and order.
It was further gathered that the clash which happened at Amuloko area of the ancient city threw the entire neighbourhood into commotion. When our reporters visited the area, shops and offices were sighted being hurriedly shut while motorists made detour for fear of dear lives. An eye witness, Abeeden Adeoye, who volunteered to speak with our reporter, said the police that were drafted to quench the crisis were shooting sporadically, a situation which he said, invariably exacerbated it. He added that strayed bullets hit over five people in his area around Target area of the city. He said a man in a white dress was shot dead under the guise of searching for the OPC boys by the police.
He further disclosed that the police were asking occupants of commuter vehicles plying Amuloko area of the Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State to alight from their vehicles and asked if they were ritualizes while those with a slight outward resemblance of a traditionalist were bundled into the waiting Police vans. Many were allegedly shot in the ensued fracas. ‘’Se alawo ni yin…’’ (are you a ritualist?), a resident, Jimoh Ibrahim, said the police were asking occupants of the commuter vehicles as they searched every nook and cranny of the community for the OPC members.
It was also gathered that one police officer was killed. Another resident in the area Adeolu Ajani, disclosed to our reporter that two school pupils were hit by the police bullets at Jegede part of Amuloko. He said there were casualties at Idi Osan where members of the OPC and men of the police engaged in a fierce battle. It was further learnt that reinforcement had to be made by the police command to subdue the rampaging OPC members.
