I’ve no Political Ambition in 2019 – Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Former Minister of Finance and chairperson Economic Planning under President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has asked the Nigerian public to disregard the rumour linking her with the 2019 presidential election.
There have been insinuations in political circle that she would contest the 2019 presidential election with a northern politician as vice President.
Posters have even appeared with her picture next to that of Atiku Abubakar as vice presidential candidate.
However, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala distanced herself from the reports which suggested that she has an ambition to contest the presidential election in 2019.
In a statement by her media aide, Paul Nwabuikwu, said she was preoccupied with international duties rather than to think of political ambition in Nigeria.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to speculative media stories linking former Minister of Finance, Dr Okonjo-Iweala with the next presidential election scheduled to hold in 2019.
“In an effort to invest their efforts with phony credibility, those behind the project have even gone to the extent of designing a fake campaign poster embossed with her image.
“This is to clarify that Dr Okonjo-Iweala who is busy with important international duties has absolutely nothing to do with these speculations and activities.
“We urge the Nigerian media and public to ignore this mischievous exercise and its sponsors, ” the statement said.
