Oshiomhole’s Son Throws Hat into Political Rings, Joins Race for Vacant Etsako Rep. Seat

It has been told in muted tones. But now, eldest son of the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, has formally declared his intention to run for the vacant Estako Federal Constituency seat at the House of Representatives.
Recall that the Etsako Federal Constituency seat became vacant after the former occupant, Hon. Philip Shaibu, was sworn in as the Deputy Governor of the State in November last year.
Indeed, the younger Oshiomhole’s political ambition which began as a rumour late last year, when posters flooded the State but were later withdrawn for unknown reason, has now become a reality.
His father left office as Governor barely three months ago.
Among others aspiring for Etsako Federal seat are John Akhigbe, Blessing Agbomhere, Johnson Oghuma and Joseph Ugheoke.
Speaking to journalists on his ambition in Benin, Dr. Oshiomhole said he decided to run for public office because he felt the involvement of youths in active politics would be the solution to the socio-economic problems in the country, stressing that Nigerians should no longer leave the country to be run by pensioners.
He said in other parts of the world, youths are at the helm of affairs in all sectors including politics, business, economy and telecommunications.
The junior Oshiomhole however stated that he has no money to give to the people to win their votes, but that he has the potentials to eradicate poverty.
“The only way I can help my people is when I am where I can make policies. That is why I am seeking to represent the Estako Federal Constituency at the National Assembly in the forth coming bye-election.
“We need to enlighten the public to change their mindset that the future is in the hands of the younger generation.
“In Edo State, the youths are more in population with high rate of unemployment. The only way the nation can get the change it desires is by putting youths at the helms of affairs.
“In developed world, the issue is if the person is qualified or not. I have a reputation and legacy to sustain my family. I am not going there like some persons to make money. I am going there because I have the passion to help my people,” he said.
