PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting By Makarfi Is Illegal –Sheriff

The Chairman of People’s Democratic Party PDP, Alimodu Sheriff has said that the stakeholder’s emergency meeting called by the Makarfi Caretaker Committee is illegal as he has not mandated any member of the party to call for a meeting as the leader of PDP.
Sheriff said Makarfi would be taking the law into his hand by going ahead with the meeting under the platform of PDP. According to him, the judgment of the Court of Appeal affirming him as the authentic chairman of the party behooves on him the responsibility to lead the party and call for such meetings of the leaders of the party.
Speaking on a Channel TV programme on Sunday night as monitored by the Street Journal, Sheriff said he was still making consultations on how to move the party forward and prepare it for future electoral victories.
‘’If Makarfi wants to take the law into his own hand, I’ll not join him in doing that’’, he said, adding that since he returned to the country on Saturday sequel to the Appeal Court judgment, he had been having consultations with the various stakeholders of the party including about seven governors, former governors, and BoT members on how to move the party forward.
He however, dismissed the insinuation that he was planted in the party as a mole by the ruling APC to destroy the main opposition party in the country. Sheriff said both Governors Nysome Wike of Rivers State and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti were instrumental to how he became chairman of the party with 69 votes while the next candidate for the position in the election had nine votes. Sheriff said if he was planted as a mole in PDP by APC, then both Wike and Fayose must also be working for APC to destroy PDP, stressing that he was invited by both governors to lead the party and they were at the fore-front in his emergence as chairman.
Sheriff pointed out that the two governors thought he would become a puppet who would be taking instructions from them, hence their initial support for him to be chairman of the party. He retorted that he was governor before either of them and was a three-term Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. ‘’How on earth would I be taking instructions from them?
‘’I spoken with more than seven governors of our party, former governors and BoT members who have pledged their support for me’’, he said, adding that he had informed them of the need to hold a convention of the party where new leadership of the party would emerge. He however, denied that he was ready to resign as chairman of PDP. He said he was only fighting for his right as the authentic chairman who emerged through a due process. He wondered why Wike and Fayose who were amongst those who invited him to lead the party suddenly became his major antagonists. The PDP chairman also denied that he threatened to send the two governors out of the party.
He however, said he would speak with former president, Goodluck Jonathan on Monday in furtherance of his consultations with stakeholders. He said former vice-president, Namand Sambo had called him to pledge his support for him on the need to move the party forward, stressing that he was no longer interested in leading the party. He however, quickly added that he needed to ensure that a proper convention was organized to usher in new executive members of the party with the support of the members of the party.
