Students of Ambrose Alli University Dissociate Selves from Staged Protest

The Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC), has dissociated students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, from what it called a politically motivated protest recently held at the institution.
It was gathered that some miscreants had attempted to spark protest in the University on Monday over departmental levy.
A statement signed by Comrade Osas Benjamin, Chairman of Committee on Students Matters of SNYC, said following a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and students of AAU, it was discovered that the protesters were allegedly hired from Auchi and its environ.
He said students of the institution revealed that they were just resuming from strike and everybody is focusing on studies to make up for the time lost to srltrike and as such, no student is interested in any protest for now.
“During our consultation with the management, the Vice Chancellor reiterated that the management of A.A.U., Ekpoma, is committed and working for the interest of the students, while stating that the protesters are not his students but thugs mobilised from the neighbouring communities by some persons who are bent on discrediting the present administration and the Edo State government.
“Also, our interactions with most of the students of A.A.U. revealed that the students are neither agitating not aware of any plan for the staged protest, noting that they do not have elected students’ Union government at the moment, as the last executives have graduated and the process is still on for new executives, so who could have led the protest if not enemies of the institution,” he said.
The SNYC urged the AAU students to resist any attempts by politically motivated miscreants to distract them from their studies.
According to the statement, students of AAU urged the leadership of Southern Nigeria Youth Congress to help them investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.
The leadership of the Southern Nigeria Youth Congress therefore advised trouble makers to leave Ambrose Alli University alone, warning that youths of the region will not cold their arms and watch them destroy the peace in the region.
The PRO of AAU, Edward Aihevba, who confirmed the meeting of the leadership of SNYC with the management of the university, said there was neither distress nor crisis on the campuses of the institution.
“There were some people, who have clandestine motive and it might not be far from being political, who tried to disrupt activities on the campus, but they are not our students.
“I want to say that our students have issues, but the issues are common to every universities.
“As I speak now, the university is calm. Yesterday (Tuesday), lectures held normal and the university is not in distress or crisis. We learned that some students whom we did not know where they came from, were trying to find their way into our campus and I want to let you know that our students repelled them”, he said.
