A former Adamawa State Governor, Bala Ngilari is to spend the next five years in jail for failing to adhere to the procurement laws of the state.
A High Court in Yola, Adamawa State, handed down the sentence in a 75-minute long ruling, Monday.
The trial Judge, Justice Nathan Musa held that the former Governor was guilty of four charges.
He was however discharged on one count, which bordered on conspiracy.
The Judge discharged and acquitted former Secretary to the State Government, and the Commissioner of Finance, who were second and third defendants in the case.
The Judge said the laws regulating procurement in the country stipulate no fine for those who went against the laws and thereafter sentenced him accordingly.
The Judge ordered that the convict be given the opportunity to serve his term in any prison of his choice.
