PDP Reconciliation Commottee Proposes June 30 For National Convention

*Allows Sheriff to conduct convention

The Reconciliation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recommended that the unity convention of the party should hold not later that June 30, 2017.
The committee, which is headed by Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, submitted the report to the Acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff Tuesday.
It noted that based on the Court of Appeal judgement of February 17, Sheriff is vested with the power to preside over the conduct of the National Convention.
At the submission of the report to Sheriff, Governor Dickson ‎said there is need to provide a template for the conduct of the party’s unity national convention.
“Since it is a unity national convention‎ we believe that all stakeholders of the party should be involved in conducting it,” he told newsmen after submitting the convention to Sheriff.
Consequently, the Dickson committee recommended that members of the convention committee should include seven ‎state governors, seven ‎senators including the Deputy Senate President,12 members ‘of the House of Representatives, six ‎members of the Board of Trustees, ‎six National Vice Chairmen (One per zone), three state Chairmen per Zone (18), six serving Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly and ‎six former governors.
