Ambrose Alli University ASUU Challenges Police On Alleged Killings

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University Chapter, on Thursday, challenged the Edo State Police Command to provide the location where the state Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, alleged 20 people were killed in cult related war.
ASUU called on the Commissioner to disclose to the public where he found the dead bodies killed by cult groups in the institution.
The Police Commissioner on 19, April, 2017 in a press briefing said 20 dead bodies were discovered as result of cult killings in the institution.
He also said a Professor from the university was found with guns and he is currently being investigated by the police while Professor Sunday Edeko who hitherto accused the police of molestation has tendered an unreserved apology to the command for obstructing them while carrying out the arrest of a notorious cultist at Ekpoma.
However, on Thursday, ASUU refuted all the claims, noting the Commissioner was stating the obvious.
Chairman of ASUU, Ambrose Alli University chapter, Monday Igbafen, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Idris, to call the Commissioner to order or transfer him from the state.
The Chairman said: “ASUU AAU, Ekpoma, demands the immediate transfer of Haliru Gwandu. Edo State is a civilized state and we deserve a truly patriotic commissioner of police not the likes of Haliru Gwandu.
“ASUU AAU, Ekpoma calls on the AIG Zone 5 and the IGP to properly investigate Commissioner Gwandu and his activities in Edo State. We have immense confidence in the police but not those in the class of Commissioner Gwandu and his ‘kill and go’ mentality.
“We still have fond memories of past disciplined, resourceful and efficient Police Commissioners who have served in Edo State like Yekini Jimoh and others who successfully rid Edo State of crimes and criminals to the satifaction of all. Haliru Gwandu is certainly not in the class of these refined gentlemen of the force. He is certainly wearing “borrowed robes.
“As a union, our members used to take police briefing as a serious business but from this Gwandu’s macabre dance, we know better now and have resolved to take any briefing by the police with a pinch of salt, especially those of Gwandu’s extraction.
“How and why should a Police Officer of the rank of commissioner of police descend so low to fabricate monkey tale about the arrest of phantom cultists and gun runners when he knows that the issue before him is just to investigate and tell the world whether his “killer-gang” in Ekpoma was right in the unjust brutalization of professor Edeko and other innocent young men and women in Ekpoma and itsenvirons”, he said.
