Benin Monarch Cautions EFCC, Investigate Before Prosecution

The Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II has admonished the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), to focus on detailed investigation on matters brought before it, than indiscriminate clamp down on suspects and rushing to arraign them.
The Monarch, who gave the admonision when he played host to the Benin Zonal Head of the Commission, Mailafia Yakubu, in his palace on Friday, also cautioned the Commission against being used as agent of intimidation and witch hunting.
He noted that many Nigerians are eager to see corrupt individuals and organisations prosecuted and convicted to serve as deterrent to others, adding that if some of the abnormalities within the practice of the Commission are corrected, the country will witness greater economic and social-political growth and development.
The royal father who appreciated efforts made by the Commission in recovering looted funds for the country, further advised their officials not to be used as agent of vendetta.
Earlier in his speech, the Zonal Head of the EFCC, Yakubu, said he was at the palace to inform the Monarch of the formal opening of the Commission’s Zonal office in Benin, comprising of Edo, Delta, Anambra and Ondo States.
