Court Grants Nyako Leave to Travel Abroad for Medical Attention

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court,Abuja, Thursday, granted the former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, leave for medical treatment in Germany.
The Judge also ordered that the Chief Register of the court to release the first and third defendant’s international passport to enable them travel abroad.
Justice Abang said that since the prosecution counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Rotimi Jacobs(SAN), did not object to the application made by the defence counsel, John Ochogu, he will grant the defendant leave to travel for medical treatment.
Earlier, when the matter came up for hearing, Ochogu said: “My lord we are praying this honourable court to grant the 1st defendant leave to travel to Germany for urgent medical attention
“While the third defendant Mr Abba is to travel to the United Kingdom to visit his family”
Responding to the two applications, Jacobs said that he will not oppose their bid as far as it doesnt interfere with court proceedings
He said: “Their sureties should also be informed about the development before travelling out of the country and also the defendants should depose an affidavit to show that they have informed the sureties”
After listening to the application, Justice Abang adjourned until September 26-29 for continuation of trial.
Recall, Nyako and his son, Abdulaziz, a Senator, are standing trial over alleged N40bn fraud.
Father and son are facing a 37-count money laundering charge alongside two others, Zulkifik Abba and Abubakar Aliyu.
They allegedly diverted the funds from the Adamawa treasury between January 2011 and December 2014.
