Group Urges Tinubu to Prevail on Abraham to Withdraw Case Against Akeredolu

Members of the Ondo Professionals in Edo State, have appealed to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, to prevail on a former governorship aspirant of the party in Ondo State, Olusegun Abraham, to withdraw his case against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Abraham, who came second in the primary election of the APC for the gubernatorial election in the State, is challenging the choice of Akeredolu as the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 26, 2016 governorship election.
According to him, the primaries which upheld the selection of Akeredolu was fraught with irregularities as affirmed by an investigative committee of the party, which also recommended a repeat of the exercise.
Shortly after the primaries, the aggrieved aspirant sought an interim injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission, from recognising Akeredolu as the governorship candidate of APC in the election, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed in the suit.
In October last year, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, ruled that the application for interim injunction sought by Abraham had merit.
The court then ordered Akeredolu to appear before it on October 28, 2016, but he appealed the ruling and also filed a stay of proceedings. The appeal court however ruled that the appeal and the application for stay of proceeding lacked merit.
The court also ordered the Governor to put up a defence as one of the respondents to the suit, which is marked FHC/ABJ / CS/788/2016 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
But the Ondo Professionals in Edo State, in a statement signed by Dr. Samson Falana and Oladapo Ogundare, Chairman and Secretary respectively, urged Tinubu, to wade into the matter, noting that Akeredolu the eventual winner of the election, is also a member of the party.
They noted that Abraham is supposed to join hands with Akeredolu in order to move Ondo State forward.
“Ondo Professionals in Edo are not comfortable with the recent development in Ondo, particularly, the case instituted by Segun Abraham, a one time APC governorship aspirant.
“We thought leadership of the APC will call Segun Abraham to order to withdraw the court case he filed. This is because the winner of the governorship election is also a member of the APC.
“Ondo people are not happy with the recent development, more so, the Governor is performing, constructing many people-oriented projects. The Governor is also laying solid foundation for a vibrant economy in the State.
“We are therefore appealing to people fanning embers of hatred and disunity to refuse to be used to destabilise Ondo State. The court case is uncalled for, it will yield no good result. Ondo people will not tolerate unnecessary distraction to the Governor from his laudable programmes,” the statement said.
