Military Probes Terrorists Deadly Onslaught on Convoy of UNIMAID, NNPC Staff

The military has indicated interest to probe the recent Boko Haram terrorists onslaught on the convoy conveying the staff of the University of Maiduguri and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that resulted in death of many and left the military with bloodied nose.
A source said that security services will determine whether there was connivance and collaboration by those living along the routes, the Yesu District in Magumeri axis of Borno State, since the same NNPC explorers had travelled regularly to the exploration sites on the same route.
The military is suspecting that moles were feeding terrorists with movement of its personnel, government workers and vulnerable villages.
“It is so baffling the shocking ambush by the terrorists when our gallant troops have always provided adequate security cover for the same convoy regularly on that same route and similar ones for months without problems,” the source lamented.
There are concerns that the planned military onslaught recently announced by the Chief of Army staff (COAS) with adeadline to capture Abubakar Shekau dead or alive may be slowed down because of the kidnap of some staff of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and others.
Another intelligence officer said: “Some military decisions must have the backing and endorsements of the ruling political class before they can be carried out to avoid any collateral damage.”
