PDP Governors, Among Those to Visit Buhari in London

Baring last minute change of heart, Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, are among Governors, who are on their way to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari in London, Tuesday.
The trip being put together by the office of the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (retd), it was gathered was to lay to rest speculations about the President’s health situation.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had lambasted APC Governors’ visit to the President on Sunday, describing it as insult to Nigerians.
The party spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said on Monday, “It is an insult to Nigerians because they don’t think that we are important; once they meet with the president that is all, and they will come and show us a picture.
“They don’t even think that it is necessary for the President to send message to Nigerians or for themselves to come and tell us what happened during that meeting. They merely planted pictures in the front pages of all the newspapers, and they think that is alright.
“That is not the way to behave in a civilised country. At least, ordinarily we should have been having daily bulletins on the President’s health, the man is being treated there in London with tax payers’ money, and we elected him to do a job.”
While affirming that the PDP wished the President well, the party spokesman nevertheless faulted the attitude of his handlers, saying:
“We wish him well, and we want him to live, but it is pure contempt for Nigerians for a group of people, party leaders to just go and meet the president and come and show us pictures without saying anything either from them or from the president to Nigerians. It is pure contempt; it is an insult to our collective intelligence.”
Meanwhile, listed among the six Governors to visit Buhari are Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo).
The four Governors are from the South-South, South-East, North-West and South-West respectively.
Two other Governors are expected to come from the North-East and North-Central.
A Governor, who is not among those travelling to see Buhari, said those chosen for the journey were picked outside what he described as the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
He added that he was surprised when he heard about the journey from one of his counterparts, stating that if the secretariat and the Governors had been contacted, the Governors would have picked at least one of the PDP Governors that had been critical of the President.
LHe said, “Our colleagues are going to London to see the President. But I am not happy that someone like the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, or his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, is not on the delegation.
“Though there are PDP Governors on the delegation, we know ourselves and also know those we know are truly part of the opposition and those close to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“The Governors had been directed to be at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, tomorrow (Tuesday). From there, they will fly to the United Kingdom.”
The Governors are expected to have lunch with the President before returning to the country on Wednesday.
