Abducted Former Labour Minister, Akwanga Released, 5 Arrested

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspects in connection with the kidnapping of former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Hussaini Zanwa Akwanga.
This is as Kennedy Idirisu, the spokesman of the State Police Command, confirmed the release of the former Minister by his abductors on Thursday in Lafia.
The suspects were nabbed after an intensive search and combing operation in one of the forests in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The State Police Commissioner, Abubakar Sadeeq Bello, said that the arrested suspects are currently being interrogated.
A former Minister of Labour and Productivity, under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo administration, Akwanga was abducted by unknown gunmen from his farm in Akwanga, Nasarawa State on Tuesday.
Idirisu said the politician was released unhurt by his captors at 6.00 p.m. on Thursday, about 48 hours after he was abducted.
“Although he was a little traumatised, he is hale and hearty and has been reunited with his family,” he said.
He said the release of the ex-Minister might have been due the “sustained pressure from the police and other security agencies” involved in the rescue operation.
On whether any ransom was paid to secure the release of the politician, the spokesman said the command had no knowledge of such.
