Ex-NYSC Director Appeals for Govt’s Subvention to Schools for Youth Development

A retired Director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Dr. John Abhuere, has advocated government’s subvention to youth centres across the country for training and empowerment of youths.
Dr. Abhuere, who made this call during prize giving day, Thursday, at the Centre for Child Care and Youth Development (CCYD) School, Uromi, Edo State, said government intervention was necessary for the country to realise its greatness and achieve the dream of a better society.
He noted that “for the proper empowerment of our youth, I appeal to the state government to support private schools with some grants.”
Abhuere, who is the Director of CCYD, said the upbringing of a child belongs to all.
According to him: “…the task of developing the child and youth belongs to all – family, traditional rulers, village heads, government and other institutions. Unless this is done, there is no much hope for a great country of our dream. I therefore like to call on all to wake up to the challenge of child care, youth development and empowerment in Nigeria”
He said pupils of today are future ministers, governors, presidents, and successful business men and women, hence investment on them was never wasted.
He said CCYD was set up to provide quality education, to make the youth knowledgeable, skillful, responsible citizens and to be self reliant and contribute to the development of their communities.
