Two Policemen to Die by Hanging for Armed Robbery

Two policemen are to die by hanging for armed robbery. That was the verdict of an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, Wednesday.
The two policemen, Henry Ubogu and Emmanuel Moses, the court ordered, are to be hung having found them guilty of armed robbery.
They were attached to the Ondo State Police Command when they allegedly committed the crime.
It was gathered that they had earlier been sacked by the command before their arraignment after orderly room trial.
The convicted cops were said to be involved in robbing motorists at gunpoint while on illegal checkpoints in the state sometime in 2010.
The convicts were arrested in 2010 after snatching a Toyota Camry car belonging to one Victor Ojo in Akure. They had pretended to be on a stop-and-search operation.
After snatching the car, they reportedly fled the scene.
It was also learnt that the reckless manner in which they drove after the robbery raised the suspicion of a patrol team who then gave them a hot pursuit.
This led to their hitting another vehicle and thereafter apprehended, and subsequently detained at A Division police station, Akure.
Later, their case was linked to the signals of Ijapo Police Station where a case of armed robbery had earlier been reported that night by their victim.
Since then, they have been appearing in court, until Justice David Kolawole finally gave his ruling on the matter.
The judge held that the case of the prosecution against the accused persons had been proved beyond reasonable doubts.
He therefore ordered that the two accused persons be hung by the neck until they die.
