Herdsmen Attack: Edo Gov. Orders Security Agencies to Arrest Perpetrators as Troops Arrest 6 Caught Destroying Farmland in Benue

Edo State Governor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has ordered security operatives in the state to go after and arrest suspected herdsmen who attacked and killed three people in Ugboha community, in Esan South East Local Government Area of the state, over the weekend.
Two adults and a minor were reportedly killed during the attack.
This is even as troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade have arrested six herdsmen, caught in the act of farmland destruction in Kwata, Benue State.
Obaseki condemned the unwarranted killings by the bandits under the guise of herdsmen, in contravention of government’s directive that cattle should not move in the state at night.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, to the Governor, Crusoe Osagie, on Sunday, Obaseki charged security operatives to arrest the culprits within seven days.
“The Governor has given orders that the culprits must be apprehended within seven days. He directed the committee made up of the police, officials of the State Security Service and other security agencies to work with members of all associations of cattle dealers and people who have information regarding the activities of the bandits to fish them out within the stipulated period.
“He condoled with the families of the victims and pledged his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of all Edo people and residents in the state as well as their property.
“The Governor appealed to members of the affected communities to keep the peace and rest assured that the culprits will be apprehended and that justice will be served,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has said in a statement that six herdsmen were arrested destroying a farmland in Benue State.
Scores of people have been killed in Benue in 2018 due to violence between herdsmen and farming communities.
“Troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade have arrested 6 herdsmen, caught in the act of farmland destruction in Kwata, Benue State.
“Troops while on patrol in the general area of Kwata Sule on 17 March 18 encountered the herdsmen in the act prompting their arrest.
“After initial interrogation, the suspects were handed over to the police for further action.
“Similarly, troops on patrol in the general area of Chembe, Tse-Gundu, Tse-Iordye and Shaor settlements sighted two herdsmen on a motorcycle along Kwata Shaor river bank.
“Herdsmen abandoned their motorcycle and fled. In search of the general area, one round of 7.62mm special was discovered. Troops continue to dominate the general area with patrols, ” the statement said.
