UBTH New Board Chairman Sues for Collaboration from UNIBEN for Ultimate Productivity

Chairman of the newly constituted Board of Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu, has sued for collaboration between the management of the University of Benin and the UBTH, in the areas of research and training, to enhance the Hospital’s productivity and service delivery.
This is even as he charged the management of the Hospital to embark on research and training, with a view to addressing challenges in the health sector.
He gave the charge on Tuesday, while during a courtesy visit by the Board members to the Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, in his office.
Adewolu who eulogized the contributions of the founding fathers of the Hospital, said there was need to sustain the legacies of the Late Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia, noting that such can only be achieved by pursuing aggressive research and educational training of medical personnels.
“To make the Teaching Hospital meaningful, we need your cooperation and that is why you see the decree that set up the hospital make provision for the University representative to be a member of the Board. There cannot be a teaching hospital without a University.
“I was a member of the Board of University of Abuja. At that time, there was dichotomy between the University and the Teaching Hospital. Back then, I approached the Vice Chancellor to say you cannot be in the University without a Hospital, even when you have a faculty of medicine.
“What I want to say here is that, we were the first board to set up the Gwagwadala Teaching Hospital in Abuja and of course they are following UBTH and UNIBEN,” Adewolu said.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN, Prof. Orumwense, assured the UBTH Board Chairman of the readiness of the school to give necessary support to the Teaching Hospital, adding “that there is no gap between UBTH and UNIBEN.”
The newly inaugurated Board Members of the Hospital are: Chairman, Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu, Temitope Fabanwo, Onyemelukwe John Paul, Aliyu Oroji Wammako, Prof. Casmir Omuemu, Director of Administration (UBTH), Mrs. Philomena Omoregie.
Others are representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. N. Ezeigwe, of the University of Benin, Prof. Jacob Ehiorobo, Provost College of Medicine UNIBEN, Prof. Efosa Oviasu, Representative of Senate Uniben, Prof. John Akerele, Dr. Woghiren Emmanuel, Prof. Innocent Ujah and representative of other Health Professional (JOHESU), Hon. Philip Owolabi Salu.
Earlier in the day, the members of the Board of Management of the Hospital, led by its Chairman, had visited the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, to solicit for his support and royal blessings for the institution.
