High Court Affirms Ataoja of Osogbo’s Removal

A High Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II to vacate the throne with immediate effect. He was also ordered to stop parading himself as the Ataoja of Osogbo.
Giving the ruling on Monday, Justice Oyejide Falola said Jimoh Olanipekun was an impostor. He also referred to Justice Yinka Aderibigbe’s ruling of February 18, 2011 which held that the selection process that produced Olanipekun as the Ataoja was faulty and ordered him to vacate the throne.
Justice Falola also ruled that “under the law, there is no Ataoja of Osogbo on the throne now as the instrument of office has been withdrawn by a valid and subsisting order of this court since 18th February, 2011. He cannot be recognised as the Atoaja of Osogbo until the order is reversed by the Appeal Court. Therefore, Oyetunji must vacate the throne immediately.”
A suit had been filed by Nasiru Oyeniyi and Claudius Fayoyiwa of the Sogbo Ruling House against Oyetunji Olanipekun and the kingmakers before he was installed as the Ataoja of Osogbo.
