A’Ibom: Tribunal Throws Out Akpanudoedehe’s Petition

The Election Petitions Tribunal in Akwa Ibom State has dismissed the petition filed by the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Senator James Akpanudoedehe, challenging the victory of Governor Godswill Akpabio of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the April 2011 governorship election in the state.
In its ruling delivered earlier today, the panel dismissed the petition on technical grounds. The panel made it known that the petitioner did not seek the leave of the Tribunal before moving the motion for the issuance of notice for pre-hearing session on the respondents as required by the Electoral Act of 2010.
The Action Congress has said it will file an appeal against the ruling.
