Dr. Maryam Ali, wife of the former National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party has again made an open show of her hot temper. This time, the Director of the FCT Department of Control was the one at the receiving end of Mrs. Ali’s burning rage.
The Director, Yahaya Yusuf found himself within the range of Mrs. Ali’s anger because of the demolition exercise carried out by his department on her residence at Plot 1613, House 8, Asokoro District in the Federal Capital Territory.
The house had its fence demolished on the orders of the former FCT Minister, Nasiru el-Rufai. The reason given then was that the fence was sitting on a water line. The action was however reversed by Dr. Aliyu Moddibo Umar who succeeded El-Rufai as FCT Minister.
Street Journal’s investigations showed that the issue came up again and the fence was once again pulled down by officials of the Department of Control for the same reason earlier given. According to sources within the department, “the fence was erected in a location where it runs contrary to the Abuja master plan”.
The officials who went to carry out the demolition of were however made to pay dearly for their action as some of them were reportedly beaten and stripped naked by domestic workers of Dr. Maryam Ali.
Witnesses revealed that one of the senior officers who accompanied the demolition team suffered the most. Apart from being severely beaten, his new Apple iphone was smashed by Mrs. Ali.
After the brawl around her premises, the former PDP Chairman’s wife stormed the Department’s Zone 6 office with some thugs. The obviously annoyed Mrs. Ali blocked the main entrance of the office with her Rover Jeep with the customised plate “OKWEI VI” and went straight to the office of the Director.
The atmosphere at the Director’s office was charged like that of a war zone as Mrs. Ali kept shouting at the top of her voice that she took approval from the Abuja Geographical Information System (AGIS) before erecting the fence and as such, the department has no right whatsoever to demolish it.
The Director of the Department of Control’s insistence that the demolition was a directive from Senator Bala Mohammed earned him a slap.
Investigation also revealed that while Mrs. Ali was fomenting trouble in the Department’s office, her husband was in the FCT Minister’s office where he went to complain that his wife had been locked up by some FCT staff at Zone 6
The Minister immediately sent the Permanent Secretary Dr. Nathaniel Biodun Olorunfemi and FCT Chief of Staff, Alhaji Musa Yashi to intervene in the matter.
While expressing his disappointment at Mrs. Ali’s his behaviour, the Permanent Secretary disclosed that remarked that any attack on officials of the Federal Capital Territory in the course of their work is as good as an attack on the FCT Minister.
Dr. Olorunfemi told the Director and his staff that “you are carrying out all the time the orders of the Minister so any harassment on you is harassment on the minister that is why the minister said I should come and tell you that and that the matter is under control. He is going to handle it and he is going to deal with it”.
Many Nigerians got to know the stuff Mrs. Ali is made of during the PDP Senatorial primaries in Delta North district. Then she was contesting against Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the ticket. Many saw it live on television as Mrs. Ali stormed the venue of the primaries with a number of people in a bid to prevent the shadow elections from holding.
She kept shouted around the arena at the top of her voice, insulted electoral officers and security agents alike. Most party members then wondered how the wife of a former National Chairman would throw decorum to the winds in during the conduct of party primaries. Some PDP members have however opined that she enjoys her husband’s backing in everything she does.
