Judge’s Son On Trial For Defrauding Senator Ararume

Olamilekan Popoola, a banker has been arraigned before an Abuja High Court for allegedly defrauding Senator Ifeanyi Ararume (the Imo State Action Congress of Nigeria’s governorship candidate in the last elections) of N 21 million in 2010.
Olamilekan who is a son to retired Justice Olaleye Popoola allegedly deceived the politician to invest in a fixed deposit with the bank where he was a staff. He allegedly diverted the money into his private account thereafter.
He was also accused of forging eight different letters of investment.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail with N 5 million in bond and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be resident in the Federal Capital Territory and must not be below Grade Level 14 in the civil service.
Justice Sylvanus Chinedu Orji has adjourned the case till September 14, 2011.
