Rivers State Wins National Sports Festival

The 17th edition of the National Sports Festival rounded off with a colourful closing ceremony on Saturday. The ceremony held at the Liberation Stadium had the Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo and Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon in attendance.

At the end of the games, Rivers State came tops with 135 Gold, 29 silver and 85 bronze medals.  Delta State occupied the second position with 82 gold, 88 silver and 81 bronze medals. Edo State came third with 46 gold, 1 silver and 51 bronze medals.

Apart from the trophies presented to the top three states, they went home with cash rewards of N 20, 15 and 10 million for the first second and third positions respectively.

Lagos State will host the next edition in 2012.
