Akande Confirmed As Reps Majority Leader

The House of Representatives seems to have eventually acceded to the request of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) as Honourable Mulikat Adeola Akande was on Thursday named as the Majority Leader of the House.
Akande had vied for the Speaker’s position with Honourable Aminu Tambuwal. Political analysts believe that with the appointment of the Oyo State lawmaker as the Majority Leader, the tension that had been generated between the PDP Caucus in the House, especially the House leadership and the party would be doused.
While many of the legislators preferred Hon. Ajibola Saubana Muraina who incidentally comes from Oyo State like Akande, the party had insisted on Akande as its choice for the position.
Apart from the new Majority Leader, the appointments of 90 Committee Chairmen were announced.
Muraina who many supported for the Majority Leader’s position emerged as the House Committee Chairman on Petroleum (Upstream).
While announcing the appointment of the new Chairmen, the Speaker urged them not to see themselves as being superior to their colleagues since the core objective is service.
