MEND Issues Warning Ahead of October 1

In apparent defiance to the Federal Government’s efforts to curb acts of terrorism, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has issued a warning that people should steer clear of the Eagle Square venue of the Independence Day celebrations on October 1, 2011.
In a statement from the mysterious spokesman of the movement, Jomo Gbomo, on Wednesday, MEND which seems to be out to embarrass the government stated that ”On October 1, 2011, The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) intends to place bombs within and in the immediate vicinity of Eagle square, venue for the proposed 2011 independence anniversary celebrations.
After fifty one years of independence, Nigerians still have nothing to celebrate.
The general public is strongly advised to consider this as a first and final warning.
No additional warnings will be issued subsequent to deployment or detonation of these devices which will be novel in nature.”
The organisation claimed responsibility for the explosions that almost marred the Independence day celebrations last year. Incidentally, Jomo Gbomo had sent e-mails warning people to evacuate the venue just an hour before the bombs went off.
