Court Dismisses Appeal Against Akwa Ibom Governor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed the case brought against the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio by Frank Okon, an Akwa Ibom governorship aspirant.
Mr. Okon had gone to court to seek to upturn the election of Governor Akpabio for purportedly being excluded from the January 9, 2011 Peoples Democratic Party primaries in the state.
Governor Akpabio’s legal team led by Paul Usoro SAN had however contended that it was a non-issue as the contentious primaries had been canceled by the PDP and a fresh one which was ordered and held on January 15, 2011 led to the emergence of Chief Akpabio.
The court also awarded a N 40,000 cost against Mr. Okon.
While analyzing the court’s decision, legal pundits disclosed to Street Journal that the implication of the dismissal is that he cannot go on further appeal.
