Oyo Governorship Petition: Tribunal Reserves Judgment


The Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday reserved its ruling in the petition filed by the Peoples’ Democratic Party challenging the election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi. The main even of the sitting was the adoption of the written addresses of the counsels involved in the case.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Abdulkadir Pindiga disclosed that the ruling would be delivered soon on a date to be communicated to the parties involved.
Before Monday’s sitting, the tribunal had rejected some documents tendered by the People’s Democratic Party to support its allegation that Governor Abiola Ajimobi has dual citizenship.
The party challenged the declaration of Senator Ajimobi as the winner of the April 2011 governorship election among others, on the ground of alleged dual citizenship of the United States of America and Nigeria.

The tribunal had ruled then that the tendered documents were not admissible.
