Shehu Ladan, Former NNPC GMD Is Dead


The immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Alhaji Shehu Ladan is dead. The Kaduna-born philanthropist, lawyer and oil and gas Management Strategist passed on in a hospital in Dubai after a battle with an undisclosed ailment. Ladan had served in various capacities including Staff Solicitor of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria decades ago. He later became the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser to the Kaduna State Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Assistant Director Federal Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Jos. The late Alhaji Ladan was appointed into the Kaduna State executive council as Commissioner of Education in 1987 and in 1989, he was appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

Ladan moved to the oil and gas industry in 1990 and he held various positions in the (NNPC), rising to the position of the Group General Manager of Human Resources in 2004. By 2006, he had become the Deputy Managing Director/CEO of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Ltd, a joint venture company that has NNPC, Shell, Total and Agip as shareholders. In October 2007, he was appointed Group Executive Director (GED) Commercial and Investment of NNPC. And in April 2010 he was appointed the Group Managing Director after a brief recess from the industry.He occupied the office for a period of less than two months.
