Supreme Court Sacks Kebbi State Governor, Orders Fresh Election!

The Kebbi State Governor, Usman Seidu Dakingari was on Friday sacked from his position by the Supreme Court. Fresh elections have been ordered.

In the judgement read by Justice Walter Onnoghen, the court set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal which had earlier upheld Dakingari’s election on the ground that the court erred by deferring the reason for its judgement to a period outside 60 days allowed by the constitution.

The Supreme Court therefore set aside the judgement of the Appellate Court and consequently upheld the verdict of the Kebbi State Election Petitions Tribunal which had earlier nullified the election that brought Dakingari into office. In its place, a fresh election was ordered, the election is to be conducted within 90 days.
