The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a suit filed by Senator James John Akpanudoedehe to challenge the election of Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State. Justice Mary Odili who read the lead judgment said the suit lacked merit. She went on to describe it as an abuse of court process and a waste of the court’s time. According to her, the submission of the appellant’s counsel was a good academic rendition which however has no consequence whatsoever.
The seven justices were unanimous in their decision which stemmed from the fact that the appeal failed to meet the 180 days stipulated by the constitution.
