History was made in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday as Lady Valerie Ebe was sworn-in as the state’s first female Deputy Governor. She was sworn-in by the Chief Justice, Idongesit Ntem- Isua. The new Deputy Governor took over from Nsima Ekere who resigned on October 31, 2012.
Lady Ebe’s nomination was confirmed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Friday. Before she became the Deputy Governor, she had served as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and Commissioner for Environment. She also served as the PDP’s Legal Adviser. Lady Ebe hails from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state, she was born on March 26, 1947.
“By her appointment, we now have a triumvirate of women in key positions like the Chief Judge, Head of Civil Service and Deputy Governor,” Chief Godswill Akpabio disclosed after the swearing-in ceremony.
