The Irish Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Mr Alan Shatter T.D., with the consent of the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, has decided to increase the fee for the issue of a registration certificate to non-nationals lawfully present in the State with effect from next Monday 19 November, 2012 to €300.
According to the Irish Naturalization and Immigration Services, some classes of people are exempted from payment. They include Convention refugees, persons who have been reunited with such refugees under section 18 of the Refugee Act 1996, persons who are under 18 years of age at the time of registration and spouses, widows or widowers of Irish citizens.
Others are civil partners or surviving civil partners within the meaning of the Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010 of Irish citizens, spouses and dependents of EU nationals who receive a reasonable permit under EU Directive 38/04 as well as Programme Refugees as defined by section 24 of the Refugee Act. 1996.
