Kidnappers Demand $ 1 Billion Ransom For Okonjo-Iweala’s Mother!

The abductors of the Professor Kanene Okonjo, the mother of Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala have demanded for a ransom of $ 1 billion. Street Journal gathered that the kidnappers contacted the family on Monday morning. Professor Iweala was abducted on Sunday afternoon by gunmen who stormed her husband’s palace at Ogwashi Uku in two Audi vehicles.

Though Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan had promised that Professor Okonjo would be found within 24 hours, as of 1 pm on Monday, she was yet to be released.

While the Police authorities have ordered a full scale investigation into the matter, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba said policemen have started combing “every nook and cranny to ensure that Professor Okonjo is freed unhurt.”

Meanwhile, family sources have opined that there might have been some lapses in the security of the palace before the incident. To that, the Police Commissioner said any officer indicted would be punished.
