Ekiti’s New Deputy Governor Sworn-In


Professor Modupe Adelabu who was nominated to fill the vacant position of the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State was on Wednesday sworn-in in Ado Ekiti. The oath of office was administered on the new Deputy Governor by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayo Daramola.

Professor Adelabu, a former World Bank Consultant was a Professor of Education at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife till she was appointed as the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in 2011. While in OAU, she headed the Department of Education Management and Planning.

63-year-old Professor Adelabu started her career as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Ife in 1976. She has also served in various capacities, she was a council member of National Teachers’ Institute (2001 – 2003), council member, Christ International Divinity College (an affiliate of Acadia University Canada) Erinmo (2005 – 2010), member Planning and Implementation Committee Joseph Ayo Babalola University (2004 – 2005); and member of Council, Joseph Ayo Babalola University (2005 – 2010). She was also a foundation member of Ekiti State World Bank Assisted Poverty Reduction Agency (2000 – 2003) and member of Oxford Round Table, Oxford England.

Professor Adelabu was appointed to replace Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka, the former Deputy Governor who died on April 6 after a battle with cancer.
