Britain on Wednesday legalized same sex marriage sequel to the royal approval of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II which is the final step that requirement to turn any bill into law.
The members in the House of Commons appeared pleased as John Bercow, the Speaker announced that the royal assent has been given. The bill to legalize gay marriage in England and Wales was cleared by the Parliament on Tuesday.
With the new law, beginning from the summer of 2014, gay couples will be able to wed in civil and religious unions. The Church of England, of which regards the royal family as members will not be able to conduct same sex marriages but it may allow those in civil partnerships to convert their relationships into marriage.
Calls have come from the British government that Nigeria should review its stand on the National Assembly’s prohibition of same sex marriages.
