After 4 days of bloody battles between Kenyan forces and terrorists, President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday announced that the terrorists who attacked Westgate, a shopping centre in Nairobi have been subdued. The terrorists took control of the shopping mall on Saturday, killing not less than 67 people, six of them soldiers.
The Kenyan President disclosed that 5 of the terrorists were killed in the gun battle while 11 were arrested.
Meanwhile, the Al Shabab group has vowed to continue with attacks against Kenyan targets if Kenya fails to withdraw its troops from Somali soil. The group warned that the mall attack might only be “the beginning” if the Kenyan government fails to heed the warning.
The group stated that “this Kenyan Government meddles flagrantly in Somalia’s affairs; kills and displaces the Somali people; loots Somalia’s riches and resources; and controls the simple life affairs in it. We give this warning to the Kenyan Government and those who side with it: If it wants to live peacefully and safely, it must withdraw from our country, stop meddling in our affairs, set our captives free, and denounce all forms of fighting our religion. If you refuse to do so, you have seen what you will reap, which is only the beginning. Thus, anticipate hard days.”
The group which posts most of its messages via Twitter said “you could have avoided all this and lived your lives with relative safety. Remove your forces from our country and peace will come.”
